The sun reflected off the shore, across
The winking waves. The white beach made me blink
And squint, and then my toes began to sink
Into the shifting sand, when at a loss
For where to tread or paddle next. I
Meandered in my mind upon a way
To travel, and before the coming day,
With no preferable path I could spy
Along the shore, through sand or sea.
Although time had seemed to cease to tick
I knew it seemed only so to me.
The nexus between two worlds, and the trick
Became which way to go, what could be.
The roaring waves, the silent sand screamed, “Pick!”
And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord (Joshua 24:15).
And Elijah came near to all the people and said, “How long will you go limping between two different opinions? If the Lord is God, follow him; but if Baal, then follow him.” And the people did not answer him a word (1 Kings 18:21).
