Comfort
A time for every season comes
Like waters in a stream
That flow and pass us by
In a vaguer and dimmer dream.
A season for every time arrives
Like the distant and lighted beam
Of the ancient stars, ordained
To meet us now, to mean
Someone is planning a grander story
In the scope of history.
We need not worry in the stream
When currents hastily swell,
Neither despair under our star
When its power cannot quell
The heat our bodies bear.
Take courage then to know
The Well of headwaters
Guiding where our streams shall go,
The Beaming Source of radiance,
With love, His ambiance.
Day 28
And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent (John 17:3).
I wrote this poem in honor of my father’s cousin as she battled cancer. Ultimately, she did not win that battle in the flesh. Only a few years later, her sister faced the same battle. My parents kept me updated about her and told me she was in a lot of pain. As I interceded for her in prayer, I finally felt peace and resolution after a while. The next time I heard an update, her pain was gone, and she was able to enjoy her last several days on earth with the ones she loves. My prayer was not the only one reaching God’s ears, but part of a larger community praying for her. I feel like my specific prayer was not answered because God’s plan to call her home was set, but my prayer was answered because he lifted the pain and gave her peace during her last days.
Life doesn’t seem to make sense when in reality it makes perfect sense. I heard an analogy a long time ago about how life is like a tapestry. If you look at the tapestry from the underside, even as it is being woven, it does not look pretty nor distinguishable, but if you were to look upon it from the side of the weaver, it would all make sense and it would be entirely discernable. While on earth, we are on the underside. But God is above, and He is in fact concerned about the end result, the eternal perspective, not the temporary perspective. I look forward to that day when I get to walk around to the other side and look upon the tapestry and exclaim, “Wow! I had no idea it could be so beautiful.”
