When You Seek God

When you seek God with your whole heart
For what you want to know,
He gives no stone in place of bread.
What you ask, He will show.
Do not inquire of rocks for help.
They are not self-aware.
Do not consult the still of night.
It surely doesn’t care.
Do not seek out the animals.
Can they converse with you?
And don’t adore the blazing sun.
It can’t declare what’s true.
If you cannot answer yourself
You cannot search within.
The Lord wants your reliant faith.
We all must look to Him.

Day 12

Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known (Jeremiah 33:3).

In the story of the golden calf, Moses went up to Mount Sinai to receive God’s commandments for the newly freed Hebrews, but it took a while, and people grew impatient. Some said something happened to Moses and they could no longer count on him to show them God’s will. To them, God was nothing more than a mysterious rumbling cloud atop some unattainable place.

They felt like they needed to replace God with someone else, something else, and Aaron catered to their desires. It almost sounds crazy. These people saw God show His wonders in Egypt, heard Him speak, and everything, and yet they felt like God was dead to them because His next message was delayed (in their minds).

But what about when we go to meet with God, expect an answer, and don’t get one right away? Do we get impatient? Do we start to doubt? Do we start looking in other places for the answer: life circumstances, the words of others?

So are we really all that different from the Hebrews? Even if what we do makes perfect sense to us, what if it’s just a little crzy?

Hold fast to the confirmations God has put in your life, and wait on Him.
